The Distillery Building
Equipment Shed

Equipment and Repair Shed

This building originally was the distillery building for the Kohler and Frohling winery. London workers used it as an equipment repair shed.

Adjacent to the repair shed (on the right) was the cooper shop, a place where wooden barrels were made and repaired, for the winery. Jack London made it into his blacksmith shop, but it no longer exists. It was built by Kohler and Frolich in the 1870s out of material mined on the Ranch. The stones were composed of volcanic rock and they deteriorated from water intrusion, which caused the building to eventually crumble and fall. Only a small remnant is visible today.
