As reported in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 1 - 25 - 01, a proposed restoration fund of $161,000 has been set aside for Jack London's parlor in the 2001 - 2002 California budget. If this restoration fund receives final approval, one of the most significant buildings in the Jack London State Park will be restored, and furnished much as it was during Jack London's lifetime. The cottage was the center of activity on the ranch. The back porch leads into an old stone winery building that the Londons used for kitchen and dining facilities and often referred to as the parlor. |
Jack had electric lights installed in the stone dining room. He received and entertained many guests here.
Most Jack London Foundation members are familiar with the many guests Jack entertained in his famous parlor and will appreciate the importance of this funding. (The parlor also housed Charmian's piano, which she would play for guests on occasion.) |
