Jack London Foundation Writing Contest |

Glen Ellen, CA. — April 2005 The 2004-2005 Writing Contest ended on January 31, 2024 with 114 entries being received. The entries came from 29 schools located in Arizona, California, Iowa, Maryland, New York, Oregon, Japan and Bulgaria. There were 41 teachers involved with the students who submitted entries to the Writing Contest. The entries were read by a group of seven judges with top three entries being ranked first, second and third by another four judges. We wish to thank the following individuals for acting as judges: Rudy Ciuca, Harry Cook, Fred Fischbach, Barbara Jaffe, Audrey Kelly, Jerry Kelly, Patti Kozlousky, Earle Labor, Paul Martin, Susan Nuernberg and Jeanne Campbell Reesman. Without their assistance we would not have been able to complete the project. The winners of the Contest are as follows: First Place - "The Stag" by Cara Brook, Petaluma High School, CA.
Second Place - "Darkness" by Kira Bohm, Portola High School, CA. Third Place - "The Earth Maiden" by Lauren Broestl, The Athenian School, CA. The top three entries will appear in the Newsletter starting with the Third Place winner in the July issue. There was 39 Honorable Mention given this year. Honorable Mention's are those entries who received a score of 4.0 or above on a scale of 1 to 6. We are pleased to have such a good group of entries again this year and hope that we can get more schools involved next year.
